Nestled amongst native trees, resident wildlife, and a tranquil garden will you find our retreat at Narana. “Narana” means listening and learning; it refers to a deep listening in which you take in and live out. This concept of listening and learning for life is the bedrock of Narana’s mission to be a destination for cultural education and tourism activities promoting a greater understanding of Aboriginal culture and history.
Cultural education programs at Narana are delivered by expert staff who will fill your mind with the wonders of Australia’s indigenous culture, connection to the land, spirituality, laws, cultural designs, dreaming stories, and more. Conducted in our cultural education exhibition building, you will be able to listen and learn about ancient dreaming stories as well as connection to “country” through songlines, artwork, cultural artefacts, and bush tucker.
Be sure to visit Narana’s art gallery -- there, we exhibit and sell artwork from internationally acclaimed as well as emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait artists to suit all budgets. If you are still looking for gifts, our retail outlet stocks a large range of handmade cultural items, including boomerangs, didgeridoos, clothing, accessories, homewares, health and beauty products, bush herbs, spices, and souvenirs. Pick up a memorable gift for a friend or loved one back home so that they can share the experience as well.
Café Narana serves an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, featuring dishes inspired by native ingredients and indigenous flowers. It’s a perfect spot to fuel up before or after your visit.
Visiting us at Narana is much more than listening to lectures and looking at art; it’s a fantastic chance to get up close to emus, wallabies, and kangaroos! Painting your own boomerang and then learning how to throw it is also a complete must when visiting Narana. Our resident experts will teach you about bush tucker and the native medicinal plants in our garden.
Located 10 minutes from Geelong on the way to Torquay, we reside on the doorstep of the Great Ocean Road, only 1 hour from Melbourne’s central business district. Our doors are open Monday to Saturday, and bookings can be made via telephone or by visiting our website. We look forward to seeing you!
