Uncover the hidden histories of Australia’s First Peoples at the largest exhibition to

ever focus on the story of Aboriginal Victoria from the Creation to today. Exhibited

at Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, housed in Melbourne Museum, on this tour you’ll discover one of the most significant Aboriginal collections in the world. You’ll learn not only about the diverse Aboriginal cultures from someone with firsthand knowledge, but will also discover the tangled history of some museum artefacts themselves, many of which have been repatriated.

Bunjilaka features a variety of exhibitions covering a celebration of a culture deeply entwined with the land, the impact of British colonisation and how Aboriginal people have strived to

maintain their culture, and the ongoing debate about Aboriginal knowledge, law and property in Australia. First Peoples, the award-winning permanent exhibition, celebrates the diversity, continuity, strength and vitality of Koorie people, and presents a new and truly shared approach to the telling of history. The exhibition focuses on Victoria’s more than 40 Aboriginal language groups – uncovering hidden histories, challenging preconceptions, and inviting visitors to connect through people, place and story.

This tour goes far beyond what you’d discover by just reading the informational blurbs next to the art; the stories and tradition will be brought to life. Included on this tour is the award-winning First Peoples exhibition as well as explanations and handling of ancient tools and artefacts.

Entrance to the museum is included in the price of this tour, so you may spend all day in the museum, even before the tour begins.
